Project description:

The purpose of the project is to make contemporary art accessible through the creation of participatory artworks in the form of artefacts in public space with the contribution of the inhabitants of Varnsdorf, including groups at risk of social isolation and exclusion, in order to strengthen local ties and social cohesion.

A team of world-renowned artist and social architect Kateřina Šedá will visit the site. The focus of the several months of collaborative work will be to connect local actors who have no ties between them, or who have ties that exist but are filled with negative stereotypes, experiences and aversions.

While working together on the artwork, the artists will accentuate, capture and materialize issues of the content of social roles, the sharing of life experiences and the articulation of communicative, social, cultural and spatial barriers of the participants.

Benefits of the multi-month social art project include the strengthening of social relationships, shared identities, interpersonal trust and solidarity. The project is intended to foster mutual expectations not only among its participants, but also among other city residents in general, which people build and demonstrate in their daily interactions. The project also has the benefit of strengthening social cohesion and reducing the risk of social exclusion in the locality.
