Objective of the Project

Sniper’s Lake is a Czech-Norwegian collaboration project, which will be produced by renowned Czech company Spitfire Company. The cast will include 3 Czech and 2 Norwegian dancers. The Sniper’s Lake project will be the culmination of a long-term continuous work of the Spitfire Company on the topic of People in Extreme Situations. The initial impulse for the creation of Sniper’s Lake were old newspaper articles on the snipers’ shooting of Sarajevo people, which de facto started the civil war in this city. Snipers shooting the protesters at the Kiev Maidan square only accented this topic in a very unpleasant way. Theme of refugees and hidden threats (particularly theme of shooting) will be viewed through two different ways according the nationality of artists. This fact will lead to the diversity of views and processing of the issues that become to be essential component of every European. Also during the residency in Baerum and in Prague there will be several meetings with refugees and recording several interviews, which will be use in the performance. Dominating the dramaturgic concept is the character of the sniper who will shoot at the dancers with a paintball gun from the audience. The whole backstage will be a canvas to catch the coloured paintball shots. This will create a painting reminiscent of the paintings of the great American neo-expressionist Jackson Pollock. A contemporary musical composition will be created on the rhythmical background of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake which will be used as a reference point. The original conception of the Swan Lake will be completely deconstructed, especially its romantic component. Only thy symbolism of the swan, representing vulnerable and uprooted beings similar to refugees will be preserved.
